The ÖH at the University of Salzburg is calling for solidarity with the civilian population in Gaza through a postcard campaign addressed to the Foreign Ministry.
In an open letter to Foreign Minister Mag. Dr. Meinl-Reisinger, which can be signed as a printed postcard, we demand:
- the review and suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement,
- the recognition of international aid organizations as a voice in foreign policy,
- support for an EU-wide arms embargo against Israel,
- Targeted sanctions as long as humanitarian aid is hindered,
- recognition of the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.
These demands are based on the fundamental European values of human dignity, freedom, and the upholding of human rights.
All universities in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed. This resulted not only in the destruction of buildings but also in the severing of educational paths and the obliteration of scientific networks. As part of the global scientific community, we view it as our duty to stand up for the protection of education and human rights. Especially in times of crisis, a clear stance is required—in favor of peace, international law, and the protection of the civilian population and educational infrastructure. Anti-Muslim racism and antisemitism have no place at our university or anywhere else. We firmly oppose all forms of discrimination.
Students at the University of Salzburg are cordially invited to participate in the initiative. The postcards can be picked up, signed on-site, and handed back in at the ÖH office (Universitätsplatz 7, 5020 Salzburg) every Wednesday between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. from July to August. We will take care of the shipping.
